THE GAME OF APPEARANCES

Ceramist

Opening on Sunday, March 26 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For its second exhibition of the year, Arts Sutton welcomes the work of the Quebec-based ceramist Jacinthe Baribeau. The exhibition is entitled “The Game of Appearances”, and focuses on the evocative power of objects with which we are connected and which evoke in us a feeling of familiarity. These utilitarian objects from everyday life contain a narrative power, memories of past times, a series of recalled memories. The exhibition presents the viewers with a series of familiar objects whose function has been altered or abandoned

Several important training courses mark the career of the ceramist, from the renowned Julien workshop in Quebec City to the visual and media arts department of Laval University. Her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions held at venues such as the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Ontario, and Espace Pierre-Debain in Gatineau. Baribeau has participated in many major artistic events, including the Trois-Rivières Ceramics Biennale, the Grand Prix des Métiers d’Art de Montréal, the Contemporary Ceramics Biennale of Châteauroux in France, the Manif d’art in Quebec City and an exhibition held at the Museum of Quebec Masters and Craftsmen in Montreal ( now known as the Museum of Quebec Crafts).
