About the facilitator
Sabiha Merabet
Sabiha Merabet is a contemporary visual artist, born in Algeria and based in Montréal since 2000. Her artistic journey began in 2016 when she undertook photography training at Collège Marsan. At the same time, she developed a self-taught practice in oil and cold wax painting, enriching her visual language through a variety of techniques. Her work stands out for its abstract and expressive style, where texture and vibrant colours come together to create powerful and evocative compositions.
Over the past ten years, the artist has taken part in numerous exhibitions, where she has revealed her talent and expressed her inner world.

About This Activity
This is your chance to discover, through an intuitive and sensory approach, the unique properties of cold wax, the layering of textures, the play of materials, and the exploration of gesture. Come create a personal piece by experimenting with textures, horizons, and depth.
What to expect:
- Welcome and introduction
- Introduction to oil and cold wax painting
- Preparing surfaces and mixing materials, followed by individual selection of colours, textures, and tools
- Applying the first layers and introduction to concepts of drying time, opacity, and transparency
- Guided experimentation: textures, lines, layering; exploration of tools and working in successive layers
- Deepening and final touches: review of works in progress, technical input, and final additions
- Group discussion and sharing: everyone leaves with their own personal artwork, ready for a new creative journey.
