To bring its 45th anniversary fundraising campaign to a successful close, the Arts Sutton Art Centre invites its members to take part in a unique project showcasing their creativity and talent.
We are making 40 sketchbooks and watercolour journals available for you to fill with your original artworks. There is no imposed theme, and all media are welcome; the only requirement is that the work be presented in landscape format.
The sketchbooks will be exhibited in Espace Claire-Léger from September 3 to October 4, alongside Brigitte Normandin’s exhibition. They will be displayed on specially designed and secure shelves and tables, allowing visitors to browse through them freely.
Visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite sketchbook, and prizes will be awarded to the three most popular entries.
Each sketchbook may be offered for sale at a price set by the artist, between $250 and $400. Proceeds from sales will be shared equally between the artist and the gallery. In addition, tax receipts may be issued for the portion allocated to the Arts Sutton Art Centre (according to terms that will be specified at a later date).
A contribution of $20 will be requested to cover the cost of purchasing the sketchbooks as well as part of the exhibition installation expenses. We are confident that this initiative will be a great success and may become an annual event celebrating, year after year, the creativity of our members and the exceptional quality of their work.
You will be able to choose your sketchbook from the available models starting June 18, Thursday through Sunday, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., while supplies last. Additional information will be provided when the sketchbooks are picked up.
The call for submissions is now closed. We have reached the maximum number of applications. Thank you, and see you next time!
Technical Specifications
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The sketchbooks will be available at the Arts Sutton Gallery starting June 18, and on subsequent days during regular opening hours. A contribution of $20 is requested to help cover the cost of the sketchbooks as well as part of the expenses associated with installing the exhibition.
Several sketchbook models, containing between 12 and 20 pages, will be available. Artists may choose their sketchbook from the models available, depending on remaining inventory.
Completed sketchbooks must be returned to the gallery no later than August 30 at 5 p.m.
No theme or medium is imposed. However, for technical reasons related to the presentation of the works in Espace Claire-Léger, all artwork must be created in landscape format.
Whenever possible, artists are encouraged to fill all the pages of their sketchbook. Unused pages may be removed if necessary.
The sketchbooks will be displayed on secure shelves installed along the walls, as well as on a central table, allowing visitors to browse them easily.
To ensure a consistent presentation throughout the exhibition, the covers will be standardized with an “Arts Sutton Sketchbooks” visual that will cover the sketchbooks’ original printed covers.
Visitors will be invited to vote for their favourite sketchbook. The artists whose sketchbooks receive the three highest numbers of votes will receive a prize during a ceremony held on the final day of the exhibition.
The sketchbooks will remain the property of the artists until sold. Unsold sketchbooks will be returned to their owners at the end of the exhibition.
