TABLEAUX ANIMÉS
THOMAS CORRIVEAU
TABLEAUX ANIMÉS
Drawings
Opening Sunday, February 18 at 2 p.m.
Tableaux animés offers an immersive dive into the artist/cinematographer’s creative process. Featuring 270 painted drawings from various projects over the years, the exhibition reveals Corriveau’s artistic journey. His works, depicting urban and natural scenes populated by human and animal characters, form a captivating universe. Some drawings, placed one above the other in linear segments, allow us to perceive chronological movements, while others are inserted into large grids in the manner of 1960s Pop Art.
Thomas Corriveau, a retired professor at UQAM’s School of Visual and Media Arts, now devotes his time exclusively to animation. He has won numerous awards for his recent films, They Dance with Their Heads (2021) and Marie. Edward. Sophie (2022), screened at international festivals. He is currently working on his next film Sophie dans la forêt, scheduled for release in 2025. In the exhibition Tableaux animés, he gives us an exclusive look at the drawings from the film, shown here for the first time.
