As an artist active in the fields of drawing, photography, and digital illustration, Andrew explores, in the photo series Camera Loca on Ocean Drive, the fleeting notion of the visible and invisible spectral, combining brightness, duration, and movement to create unique abstract forms from ambient light sources.
Through gestures that allow for serendipity, the series is a study of the interaction between light and movement. By capturing the kinetic energy and fleeting essence of Miami’s nightlife, these images inspire unexpected connections and provide a captivating window into the unconscious.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to drawing and painting. As early as high school, my art teacher encouraged me to pursue studies in the arts. I studied exhibition design at CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal and continued my education at Concordia University in graphic design. Later, I took watercolor and mixed media courses at the Visual Arts Centre.
In the early 2000s, I devoted myself exclusively to watercolor with a realistic approach. My works were shown in various exhibitions, including those organized by the Canadian Society of Watercolour (SCA), where I received several awards and honorable mentions. I was elected a signature member in 2006. I also participated in various renowned exhibitions in both Canada and the United States. During that time, I also taught watercolor painting.
I then explored various media, which led me to non-figurative representation and the creation of abstract paintings, presented in a solo exhibition at Galerie Erga in Montreal in 2019. Two years later, I held a second solo exhibition, this time featuring acrylic on watercolor paper, reflecting a concern for spontaneity and lightness.
Following that experience, I decided to return to watercolor. With a newly mastered visual language, I developed an experimental series of abstract works where the medium allowed me to delicately express the effects of water and transparency. Two of my works were presented at the SCA Biennale in 2024, where one of them earned me the first prize in the non-figurative category.
